Description of obverse and reverse

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965. The obverse design bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the inscriptions “ELIZABETH II”, “AUSTRALIA” , the “2008” year-date of issue, the monetary denomination, and the weight and purity of the metal.
The reverse design on the 2008 Year of the Mouse Australian Lunar Gemstone Edition coin portrays a coloured image of two mice on a bed of straw with pumpkins and a vine in the background. The visible eye on both mice is inset with a blue sapphire. The inscription “YEAR OF THE MOUSE”, the Chinese character for “mouse” and The Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mintmark also feature as part of the reverse design.
