The gold coin is made in gold obtained from the Nalunaq Gold Mine by Nanortalik in the South of Greenland. The Royal Mint has have gold blanks made exclusively for the striking of the Polar coins. The dominating decoration is a portrait of the Queen, by the Sculptor, Professor Mogens Møller, which has been used on coins minted since 2001. Between “Margrethe II” and “Danmarks Dronning” is a small heart, called a mint mark. The year of minting is shown at the bottom of the coin.
