Conference COINS-2010 confirmed the interest to the coins market in Russia
The Second European conference on commemorative coins COINS-2010 took place on 9-10 June in Saint – Petersburg. More than 200 delegates from 29 countries participated in it. They are representatives of national banks, mints, commercial banks, distributing companies, companies producers of minting equipment.
Among the participants of COINS-2010 there were Bank of Russia, National Bank of Ukraine, National Bank of Belarus, Central Bank of Armenia, National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, National Bank of Tajikistan, mints of Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow Mints of Goznak), Austria, Australia, UK, the Nederlands, Spain, Lithuania, Kazakhstan, Canada, Sberbank of Russia, VTB24, Bank of Moscow, Tatfondbank, Bank of Khanty-Mansiysk, Bank “Petrocommerce”, Raffeisen Bank Aval, Oschadny Bank and others.
The unique character of conference COINS is that it is the only international forum dedicated to the coins market to be held on the territory of Russia. The conference is carried out once in two years.
The organizer of COINS-2008 is a Russian publishing house Watermark, the publisher of the Watermark magazine, a specialized periodical on security products, and a magazine about coins and medals the Gold.
The co-organizers of COINS-2010 are the Association of Russian banks and the National Banking Club. The official support has been rendered by the Association of regional banks of Russia and the North-West Banking Association.
The media partners of the conference are the Russian periodicals Analytical Banking Magazine, Gold Chervonets Magazine, InterCrim-press, the National Bank Magazine, the “Numismatics” magazine and the Ukranian magazines “Silver” and “Antikvar”.
The idea of carrying out the conference was supported by the Bank of Russia, which representatives made the presentation dedicated to the topical filling out of the commemorative and investments coims in Russia. The presentations were made by Goznak, National Bank of Ukraine, National Bank of Belarus, Royal Mint of the UK, Mint of Poland and others.
At the working sessions of the conference questions of the modern commemorative coins design, newest technologies of the coins production and the outlooks of development of the Russian coins market. So the representative of the Royal Canadian Mint told about the multi-ply plating of coins, the Austrian Mint expanded the nuances of the advertisement and PR in coins business, and the company Skarbnica Narodowa from Poland presented its vision of increasing the sales by means of the direct marketing instruments. Italian companies I.S.N.I. and Certiline touched upon the questions of security and safety of coins.
The particular interests of the participants of COINS-2010 was caused by the seminar dedicated to the particularities of the commemorative coins promotion in the retail business.
For the first time in Russia the exhibition-sale of the coins of Russian and foreign production was organized during the conference, where more than 30 exhibitors took part. They are mints, distributing companies and private dealers from Russia, Belarus, Austria, Poland, Canada, Switzerland, Lichteinstein, Hong Kong, China, Estonia, the Nederlands, UK, Italy, Spain. The major was the joint booth of Moscow and St. Petersburg Mints of Goznak. The organizing committee awarded the Mint of Poland with a special prize – a commemorative medal – because there were most of all coins presented at their booth.
One of the conference sessions was open to the visitors of the exhibition. It was completely dedicated to the collecting of coins, and the representatives of the British Museum and the State Russian Museum enlightened some historical moments of the development of numismatics.
The delegates of the conference and the visitors of the exhibition could take part in the lottery organized by the Konros group and win the prizes – precious metals coins and a selection of numismatics literature. The Austrian Mint also carried out its lottery the winner of which received the Austrian commemorative coin..
The awarding ceremony of the Fourth International contest “Coin Constellation-2010” (the organizer is the publishing house Watermark) took place during the conference.
209 coins from 24 countries participated in the contest. This is a record number during all the years of carrying out the contest (for reference, in the first contest which was held in 2007 participated 47 coins).
In the nomination «Coin of the year» the international contest committee awarded the prize to the coin “Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka” presented by National Bank of Ukraine. .
The best in the nomination «Unique idea solution» became the «Coin of Water» (Áàíê Ëàòâèè), the winner in the nomination « Successful artistic solution » was the coin «Peace and security» (Mint of Finland), and in the nomination « Original technology » the gold coin « International Year of Astronomy » (Mint of Paris ) was ahead of all.
The «Silver coin of the year» was named the coin «Czeslaw Niemen» (National Bank of Poland and Mint of Poland), «Gold coin of the year» - the 3 kg coin «History of money circulation in Russia» (Bank of Russia and St. Petersburg Mint).
